BUCKHORN, Amador County — Caltrans’ District 10 announced a limited traffic-control operation on State Route 88 near Buckhorn Ridge Road in late September, highlighting one of the road maintenance issues affecting the upcountry corridor.
The agency’s September 25, 2026 traffic advisory listed one-way traffic control between Raven Road and Buckhorn Ridge Road for tree work from September 28 through October 1, generally between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Is this still a closure today?
No ongoing closure can be inferred from this historical advisory. The dates have passed, and the notice did not establish whether all work was finished as scheduled. Caltrans also warned that maintenance times could change because of weather, equipment and traffic incidents.
Where to check current travel conditions
Drivers traveling toward Buckhorn or farther into the Sierra should consult Caltrans’ current SR-88 road conditions and QuickMap. Chain controls can arise farther east during winter, and a condition observed on one date may change quickly. Give road crews room and obey any new lane-control instructions.
