BUCKHORN, Amador County — Buckhorn’s water treatment plant is part of the infrastructure supplying drinking water to communities along the Highway 88 upcountry corridor, including areas around Pioneer and Pine Grove.
The Amador Water Agency’s official system description says the Central Amador Water Project receives raw water at the Tiger Creek Regulator Reservoir. From there, the water travels approximately 6.6 miles downhill through the Gravity Supply Line to the Buckhorn Water Treatment Plant.
Who uses this supply system?
According to the agency, the upcountry service network supplies areas including Pioneer, Pine Grove, Pine Acres, Jackson Pines, Fairway Pines, Ranch House Estates and nearby settlements. Some service is wholesale to other entities, while the agency operates retail services in designated areas.
Why the route matters
The water travels through mountain infrastructure exposed to changing weather, terrain and wildfire hazards. The agency’s description helps residents understand why an incident far from their immediate neighborhood may affect regional operations.
This is a guide to the normal source and treatment process, not a claim that a service outage is in progress or that any particular household’s water has been tested today. For current notices or billing, use the appropriate retail water provider.
